SFR, a major French telecommunications provider, has launched a new mobile data package aimed at frequent international travelers. This package offers 500 GB of data usable in Metropolitan France, 100 GB in Europe and the overseas departments (DOM), and 35 GB from 70 additional international destinations. It also includes unlimited voice calls and SMS to the United States, Canada, and China. The package is priced at 24.99 euros per month without any long-term commitment. Existing customers who already have a fixed-line service from SFR can get it for 19.99 euros per month, a 5-euro discount. The offer is currently available on SFR’s website. The main appeal of the package is its generous international data allowance, which is designed to support travelers who need consistent connectivity abroad. In Europe and the DOM, 100 GB of data is a significant improvement over the usual 20 to 40 GB found in most other French roaming packages. This allows users to stream videos, use GPS navigation, and video call without worrying about data limits during extended trips. The 35 GB from 70 other destinations further expands the package’s usefulness for travelers visiting non-European countries. However, it's important to note that while the package allows internet access in 137 destinations, the 35 GB data allowance is only applicable to 70 of them. On the remaining destinations, users can still access the internet, but they will be charged at the standard out-of-package rates, which can be higher. Users are advised to check the tariff details before traveling, especially to more distant locations where data usage can quickly add up. The package also includes a 5G+ connection, which uses the 3.5 GHz frequency band and the 5G core network, offering faster speeds and lower latency than standard 5G. However, this feature requires a compatible smartphone and coverage in the area where the user is located. An interactive map from ARCEP (the French telecommunications regulator) can help users verify if the necessary infrastructure is available in their area before signing up. The 5-euro discount is only available to customers who already have a fixed-line service with SFR. If they cancel their fixed-line subscription, the monthly cost will return to 24.99 euros. This pricing model is ideal for those who plan to use both SFR’s fixed and mobile services, but less so for others. The SFR TV app allows users to watch live TV on their smartphone in France and across Europe, and the Les Plus Smartphone service integrates SFR’s mobile offerings with the device. The package is without any contract, and users can cancel it at any time. Activation fees apply when ordering the service. If a user wants to keep their phone number when switching packages, they can call 3179 for free to obtain their RIO number, which they can then provide when ordering the new package. The new operator will then handle the free transfer of the phone number to the new line.
