The BBC has signed a new broadcasting agreement to air the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) across the UK from 2027 to 2029. Under this deal, the BBC will cover all 14 races in the WRC calendar each year, including five live stages and the power stage from each rally. In addition, the network will produce 14 one-hour highlights programs, along with digital clips and other content available across BBC platforms. This expanded coverage aims to bring the high-speed, off-road racing competition to a wider audience in the UK. Rally Scotland, which will return to the WRC calendar in 2027, will be a highlight of the new broadcasting deal. The event, which hasn’t taken place on the WRC schedule since 2019, will receive extensive live coverage over all four days of competition. This means UK viewers will be able to watch the rally live and for free on television, providing a unique opportunity to witness the action as it unfolds in Scotland. Hugh Chambers, CEO of Motorsport UK—the organization responsible for Rally Scotland—commented on the significance of the BBC deal. He said that the agreement gives Rally Scotland and the WRC a national platform starting in 2027, helping to engage existing fans while also attracting new audiences to the sport. The coverage is expected to boost the visibility of rally racing in the UK, especially in regions where the sport has a strong following. Currently, Welsh driver Elfyn Evans leads the 2026 WRC championship, with one race remaining in the season: Rally Italia Sardegna, scheduled to take place from 1 to 4 October. The new BBC coverage will build on the momentum of the current season and position the WRC for greater exposure in the UK in the coming years.
