The 13th Riga International Film Festival will take place from 15 to 25 October, showcasing nearly 100 films across several cities in Latvia, including Riga, Sigulda, Daugavpils, and Cēsis. The event will include the RIGA IFF FORUM from 22 to 25 October, a gathering for industry professionals such as filmmakers, producers, and distributors, with a focus on emerging talent and projects from countries with limited audiovisual production. The RIGA IFF SHOWCASE market, running from 23 to 25 October, will provide a platform for feature-film and series projects from the Baltic region and Eastern and Central Europe, aiming to strengthen regional co-productions and connect them with buyers from Europe and North America. The Feature Film Competition will include nine titles from the Baltic Sea region and neighboring countries, with Cat on My Mind, a film by Latvian director Laila Pakalniņa, opening the festival and having its national premiere. Other films in the competition include No Good Men by Shahrbanoo Sadat, Cute by Marlene Emilie Lyngstad, Nipster by Sunniva Eir Tangvik Kveum, Mo Papa by Eeva Mägi, The Patron by Julia Thelin, How to Divorce During the War by Andrius Blaževičius, I Rarely Wake up Dreaming by Isabelle Stever, and Weeping Rocks, co-directed by Kārlis Bergs and Andrew Siedenburg, which will also have its national premiere. The festival will highlight "hidden gems" and include thematic sections focusing on love, coming-of-age stories, psychological dramas, and thrillers, with several films receiving their first or only screenings in Latvia. The festival’s programme will emphasize Nordic cinema, German-speaking filmmakers, European children’s and family films, and a selection of Euro-thrillers by renowned directors such as Claude Chabrol, Michael Haneke, and Nicolas Winding Refn. It will also showcase Latvian films and co-productions, along with international and Latvian short-film competitions and the Baltic Music Video Competition. The RIGA IFF SHOWCASE jury includes notable figures such as Nadia Maria Oliva, Hugo Rosák, Jana Semjonova, Valeria Sochyvets, and Roberts Vinovskis. The festival is supported by various institutions, including the State Culture Capital Foundation, Creative Europe – MEDIA, Riga City Council, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, and the National Film Centre of Latvia. Additional support for the RIGA IFF SHOWCASE comes from the National Film Centre of Latvia, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia/Mission Latvia, and BBRental/BBposthouse. Selected projects for the 2026 RIGA IFF SHOWCASE include The Child of Another by Anna Andersson (Finland/Poland), The Silent Shore by Iryna Asonova (Latvia/Ukraine/Canada/Brazil), and several other international productions from countries across Europe.
