EuroAirport secures approval for terminal expansion, a 157 million euro project aimed at improving service quality and sustainability.
Expansion approved by local authorities
EuroAirport has received final approval for the expansion of its terminal on the city side from the State Councillors of the cantons of Basel-City and Basel-Country, as well as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC). This marks a key administrative step forward for the project.Project cost and funding
The expansion project is valued at over 157 million euros and will be fully funded by EuroAirport. It is the centerpiece of a broader multi-year investment program totaling more than 600 million euros over seven years.Focus on service quality and sustainability
Nearly half of the program’s budget is dedicated to improving service quality. The terminal expansion includes constructing a new building of about 14,000 square meters and renovating approximately 15,000 square meters of the existing terminal. The project, named EMT (Terminal Modular Evolution), aims for a BREEAM "Excellent" certification, which evaluates the environmental performance of buildings.Operational and passenger benefits
The new building will centralize security checks and streamline the passenger experience. It will also allow for the expansion of catering services and the duty-free area, along with a reconfiguration of terminal access. However, the expansion will not increase the airport’s capacity for processing aircraft.Construction timeline
Work on the project is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2027 and will be completed by the end of 2031.
