Samsung has introduced a new display technology called Micro RGB in its R95H and R85H television series. This technology uses red, green, and blue LEDs that are less than 100 micrometers in size—smaller than a human hair. These TVs share the same advanced design, which aims to address long-standing limitations of traditional LCD screens. For years, LCDs have used white LEDs for backlighting, with color filters added to create the full spectrum of colors. However, this method often results in less vibrant colors, less deep contrasts, and less accurate color reproduction.
With the Micro RGB technology, Samsung has developed a new approach. Instead of using white LEDs and color filters, each pixel is directly lit by a red, green, or blue LED, measuring just 90 micrometers. This eliminates the need for color filters and allows for a more accurate and vivid color display. The R95H and R85H are the first consumer models to use this technology, offering a color range that covers 100% of the BT.2020 standard, a global benchmark for Ultra HD television. This achievement has been verified by the VDE laboratory, which has certified the technology with the label "Micro RGB Precision Color 100."
To fully utilize this advanced display, Samsung has developed two different image processors for the two models. The R95H uses the "Micro RGB AI Engine Pro" and "Micro RGB HDR Pro" to analyze and optimize images in real time, adjusting for different content types. The R85H, while slightly less advanced, still features the "Micro RGB AI Engine" and "Micro RGB HDR+." Both models offer high levels of precision and intensity in image processing, though the R95H stands out with a special "Glare Free" surface treatment. This feature, certified by the UL laboratory, reduces glare by absorbing and diffusing ambient light rather than reflecting it. This makes the R95H more readable in bright environments, such as near windows or under direct lighting, while the R85H may show more reflections in such conditions.
Beyond display and processing, the two models also differ in gaming performance and sound quality. The R95H supports a higher refresh rate of 165 Hz and includes advanced FreeSync Premium Pro technology for smoother gaming. It also features a more advanced sound system called Object Tracking Sound+ (OTS+), which provides more precise audio tracking compared to the OTS Lite in the R85H. In terms of design, the R95H has an "Infinity Air" stand that creates the illusion that the screen floats, while the R85H uses a more traditional double stand. Both models also include the Samsung Vision AI Companion, a smart assistant that uses natural language processing to enhance the user experience with features like voice search, live translation, and AI-generated wallpapers.
