Trump has previously called Tarlov “one of the least attractive and talented people on all of television,” labeling her “one of the worst 'personalities' on television” in April and calling her “a real loser” in July. In response, Tarlov quipped, “Why is this man not busier?” and added that if she had a son, she would teach him not to criticize women based on their appearance or sound. Tarlov, who joined Fox News as a commentator in 2017, is known as the primary liberal voice on the network’s The Five. Despite Trump’s public criticisms, including his suggestion that the show would be better off without her, Tarlov recently signed a three-year contract with Fox News. She emphasized that she is trying to show that a Democratic voice like hers can exist on Fox News without an apology, and that someone with strong liberal beliefs can bring that same perspective to various outlets. When asked about Trump’s attempts to get her fired, Tarlov told The Guardian that she believes Fox CEO Suzanne Scott and the entire leadership team know exactly who she is and want her to continue her work. She added that if Trump is in a bad mood, he would likely be annoyed with someone else. Tarlov also mentioned that she has never had a conversation with Trump and does not believe his comments would lead to her being fired from her job. Tarlov stated that there is no reason to respond to Trump’s comments, as it would only make the situation worse. She has chosen not to engage with his criticisms, focusing instead on her role on The Five and her broader mission to represent a liberal perspective on a network often associated with conservative viewpoints. Her comments reflect a broader dynamic between high-profile media figures and political leaders, where public criticism often occurs but rarely leads to immediate professional consequences.
