Website outages due to security flaw

Several French prefecture websites, including that of the Paris police prefecture, have been inaccessible since Wednesday afternoon, October 21, at the request of Anssi, the French cyber security agency. The outage follows the detection of a critical security vulnerability in a widely used software component.

Security vulnerability affects many sites

The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that it had initiated preventive maintenance on all its websites exposed to the vulnerability. The issue was announced by the publisher of a popular generic software component used globally. As a result, many French websites, including those of banks and prefectures, are currently offline.

Maintenance to secure websites

Teams are working to update the affected systems as soon as a security patch is available from the software publisher. The Ministry of the Interior emphasized that the maintenance was necessary to prevent potential exploitation of the vulnerability.

Waiting for a software fix

State services are now waiting for the publisher to release a fix quickly. Once the patch is available, they will apply it to restore access to the websites securely. The situation highlights the importance of timely updates to protect digital infrastructure from cyber threats.
