Android users can boost performance with hidden settings like Advanced Protection and animation scaling, according to a new report.
Hidden settings improve Android performance
Android users can boost their smartphone performance using several lesser-known settings, according to a report from Android Police. These settings are not enabled by default and require manual activation through the device's settings menu.La Advanced Protection enhances security
One of the features is La Advanced Protection, introduced with Android 16. This tool automatically locks the phone if stolen, warns users through Chrome before visiting unsafe websites, and prevents app installations from unknown sources. However, it is not turned on by default and must be activated manually.Activating security settings disables watch unlocking
Enabling La Advanced Protection also disables the ability to unlock connected smartwatches, according to the report. Users must navigate through « Settings » > « Security and Privacy » > « Advanced Protection » to activate the « Device Protection » option. Background processes affect performance
Another method to improve performance is limiting background processes. Users can access this option through developer settings after unlocking developer mode. Changing the « Background Process Limit » to « No Background Processes » can free up 2 GB of RAM but may delay notifications and app openings slightly.Adjusting animation scales speeds up apps
To speed up app openings, users can reduce animation scales. By modifying « window animation scale », « transition animation scale », and « animation duration scale » from x 1 to x 0.5, the device can open apps more quickly. This setting is found in the general settings menu.Comfort Display reduces eye strain on newer Pixels
For users with a Pixel 10 or higher, the « Comfort Display » feature in « Screen and Touch Commands » > « Comfort Filters » can reduce eye strain by filtering blue light. This feature is not enabled by default and must be activated manually.
