Thauvin's performance this season

Florian Thauvin has scored five goals and made seven key passes this season, establishing himself as a key player for RC Lens ahead of their Champions League match against Club Bruges on Wednesday. The 33-year-old, in his second season with the club, has been influential despite playing 862 minutes out of 900 possible, attributing his physical form to strict training, recovery, nutrition, and sleep routines.

Thauvin's leadership role

He was appointed captain during the summer transfer window, a role he previously held at Udinese, and described it as "pleasing." Thauvin has made significant contributions, including two decisive passes to Odsonne Edouard and Ruben Aguilar, and has been decisive in eight of the ten matches for Lens this season.

Coach's confidence in Thauvin

Yannick Cahuzac, coach of RC Lens, acknowledged Thauvin's importance, stating that "we know the quality of Florian Thauvin and I think any club would like to have him. We have this chance, so we take advantage of it." However, Cahuzac dismissed concerns about dependency on Thauvin, expressing hope that he could finish the season with 30 goals and 30 key passes.

Thauvin's recent form

Thauvin's performance varied in recent matches, scoring in Lens' victory against Slavia Prague (3-2) but being less prominent in the 2-0 defeat against Sporting Portugal last week. He will need to return to his best form against Bruges, an opponent considered formidable after their recent 4-3 victory over Inter Milan, fueled by a hat-trick from Nicolo Tresoldi.

Tensions between clubs

The match has been classified as risky by UEFA and authorities due to the ideological proximity between Bruges supporters and Lille supporters, Lens' main rivals. Tensions have already emerged in the stands, with Lens ultras responding to Bruges supporters by writing "Bruges" backwards on a tifo during a match against Sporting. To prevent incidents, 1,470 Lens supporters will be closely supervised, with a mandatory group departure from Lens by bus.
