Grand Theft Auto VI is set to make history as the largest game launch ever, with nearly 5 million digital pre-orders within days of the Netflix Extended Look, according to Sensor Tower data. The game, developed by Rockstar Games, is the latest installment in one of the most popular and controversial video game franchises. While most players are excited about the game itself, many are now deciding which version to buy, with a clear preference for the more expensive option. The Ultimate Edition, priced at $99.99, is $20 more than the Standard Edition, which costs $79.99. According to Sensor Tower, almost 90 percent of pre-orders have been for the Ultimate Edition. This version includes exclusive in-game content such as five unique shops, including a custom car shop, a tattoo parlor, and a gang stronghold to explore. Players also get access to special side missions, three exclusive vehicles, and additional weapon skins and outfit packs. These additions are described as being "threaded" throughout the game, meaning they are integrated into the story and become available as the game progresses. Sensor Tower's Karl Kontus called the high percentage of Ultimate Edition pre-orders "staggering," suggesting that the ratio might shift closer to 50/50 once more casual players begin purchasing closer to the November launch date. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, has not released specific numbers, but CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that pre-orders are leaning heavily toward the premium version. Unlike some other major games that offer early access to premium editions, GTA VI does not provide early access to the Ultimate Edition content. Rockstar has not yet announced when these exclusive features will unlock during gameplay or how different time zones will affect their availability. Players who choose the Standard Edition can upgrade to the Ultimate Edition after the game's release by paying the $20 difference.
