New smart glasses without cameras

Meta has introduced a new version of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses called the Ray-Ban Meta Audio, which do not include a camera. This change aims to address privacy concerns and reduce social discomfort often linked to smart glasses with cameras.

Two lighter models available

The new Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses are available in two models, the Burbank and Clubmaster, which weigh 43 and 47 grams respectively. These weights are lighter than the camera-equipped versions, which range between 51 and 55 grams.

Improved battery life and comfort

The new models offer improved comfort and a longer battery life, with a nominal duration of 12 hours per charge or up to 60 hours with the charging case. This is an improvement over the nine hours announced for the camera-equipped version.

Corrective lenses and sound quality

The Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses are available with corrective lenses ranging from -12.00 to +6.00, covering most degrees of myopia and hyperopia. The sound quality is described as clear and spacious, with mid and high frequencies well defined, though the microphone quality is noted as muffled.

Features and limitations

The glasses allow users to make calls, interact with Meta AI, listen to music and podcasts, and translate between languages. They do not include features such as taking photos or recording first-person videos. The physical button located on the inner frame serves to mute the microphone.

Pricing and future features

The glasses are available with a starting price of 349 euros, which is 100 euros cheaper than the camera-equipped model. Users are encouraged to use Meta AI as a voice assistant, though more advanced features are expected with the upcoming Muse AI. The new model is seen as a safer option for those interested in connected glasses while avoiding the "creepy" side associated with camera-equipped devices.
