According to the latest barometer from Zone ADSL&Fibre, the average cost of mobile packages has increased by 10% since May. This rise is primarily due to low-cost providers, some of which have raised their prices significantly. The start of the school year, which typically brings promotions on mobile plans, instead confirmed a trend that began in June. A package with more than 100 GB now costs an average of 14.49 euros per month. While major operators like SFR and Bouygues Telecom have kept their prices stable, several low-cost brands have increased their rates by 25 to 46%. This comes as the acquisition project of the RED brand by its three main competitors becomes more concrete. Mobile package prices have been rising since June. Each month, Zone ADSL&Fibre checks the prices of major operators and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), including promotions and activation fees, averaged over 36 months. The turning point in this trend is clear. For example, in May, a mobile package with more than 100 GB cost an average of 13.13 euros per month. By June, it had risen to 14.28 euros, a nearly 9% increase. Prices have not dropped since, reaching 14.54 euros in July and August, and 14.49 euros in September. Over the past year, the increase totals 10%, as the same package cost 13.17 euros in September 2025. The slight decrease in September compared to August (-0.34%) is minimal and does not change the overall trend. More surprisingly, the start of the school year, usually a time for good deals, did not manage to lower prices. Benjamin Gervais, director of Zone ADSL&Fibre, views this as a new trend in the mobile market. In detail, the increase is mainly driven by brands that are expected to offer lower prices. For example, Prixtel has increased its prices by 46%, RED by SFR by 36%, YouPrice by 28%, and B&YOU by 27%. Meanwhile, SFR and Bouygues Telecom have not changed their prices. YouPrice remains the cheapest in the group, averaging 9.14 euros per month, followed by La Poste Mobile (9.78 euros), Lebara (10 euros), and NRJ Mobile (10.03 euros). On the other end of the scale, Orange is the most expensive operator, at 21.28 euros per month. Orange and Free are increasing their packages cautiously. The barometer also groups the brands by their parent companies. Altice, the parent company of SFR, RED, and Prixtel, has seen the highest increase among the four groups, with a 18% rise in mobile package prices since May. However, SFR has kept its prices unchanged, remaining at an average of 20.28 euros. The increase is mainly driven by RED (12.28 euros) and Prixtel (10.28 euros). These price hikes coincide with the progress of the acquisition of SFR, which Altice has accepted in principle in the spring in response to an offer from Orange, Free, and Bouygues Telecom. At Bouygues Telecom, which also owns B&YOU, NRJ Mobile, and La Poste Mobile, the increase is 7% over the period. B&YOU has raised its prices by 27%, now at 14.03 euros, and NRJ Mobile by 25%. La Poste Mobile is an exception, with a 13% decrease, bringing its price down to 9.78 euros and limiting the group’s overall increase. The Bouygues Telecom brand remains stable, around 20 euros per month. Orange and Free have increased their prices more moderately. Orange has seen a 4.9% increase, and Sosh (14.28 euros) has increased by 7.5%, totaling about 6% for the two combined. Free, which may be preparing a new offering for its two-euro package, has recorded the lowest increase among the four groups, with a 5.9% rise. Its average package has gone from 16.94 euros to 17.94 euros. These increases are much smaller compared to those seen at RED or Prixtel.
