Eilean Books, a publishing company that has begun legal procedures to restructure its finances, may soon be acquired, according to ActuaLitté. Four potential buyers have emerged, including Hachette Livre, Média Participations, and Editis, each with different strategies. After a court ruling on 24 June 2026 that allowed Eilean Books to restructure its debts, the company's ability to pay debts was set to end on 31 May 2026, with a six-month period for monitoring the situation. Several candidates have now shown interest, suggesting that part or all of the publishing business could continue under a new owner. The administrator of Eilean Books cannot choose the buyer freely, as the Commercial Code allows third parties to submit offers aimed at preserving the business through a partial or full sale. The court will decide on one or more sale proposals, considering factors beyond price, such as maintaining employment, paying creditors, and ensuring guarantees for the execution of the plan. Univers Poche, a subsidiary of Editis, is mainly interested in the editorial activities of the De Saxus and Roncière labels, as well as a selection of titles from other brands. Komikku and its manga contracts are not included in the main scope. The improved offer totals 560,000 €: 400,000 € for intangible assets—such as the catalog, contracts, rights, and other non-physical elements—40,000 € for equipment, and 120,000 € for inventory. The plan includes integrating these activities into an already structured organization. Univers Poche plans to publish 60 to 70 new titles per year, with enhanced marketing support and increased exploitation of pocket books, audio, and secondary rights. Books would be distributed and marketed by Interforum, but this time within the contractual relationships of the acquirer. The candidate also plans to propose Sam Rioult, the founder of the labels, to continue as a collection director. On the social front, seven out of twenty-two jobs would be retained. The financing plan lists 1.628 million euros in cumulative needs until 2029, including the acquisition price, integration costs, and working capital needs. Editis plans to contribute 1.298 million euros from its own funds, with the remainder expected to come from the business's activities. A difficulty remains: according to the offer, the De Saxus brand belongs personally to Sam Rioult. Therefore, the proposal from Univers Poche remains conditional on reaching an agreement with its holder. Vega/Kadokawa is focusing on Komikku, proposing to acquire the manga activity, the corresponding license rights, the Komikku brand, and an inventory of 431,501 volumes. The price quoted is 90,000 € HT. Vega is a joint venture held 51% by Kadokawa and 49% by Dupuis, a subsidiary of Média-Participations. The industrial alignment is evident: Kadokawa is one of the major Japanese players in publishing and exploitation of intellectual properties, while Vega publishes manga and light novels on the French-speaking market. The candidate indicates it will handle the transfer of rights contracts to Japan. However, the dossier remains much less detailed than those of Univers Poche or Overlord. It presents no true business plan dedicated to Komikku, no revenue forecasts, nor commitment to job retention. The transaction remains further subject to several verifications and authorizations: audits, finalization of contractual documentation, approval from the board of directors and general meeting of Vega. Bragelonne via Hachette Livre aims to integrate Eilean Books' activities into its own structure, which is itself integrated into Hachette Livre. The house highlights its editorial, commercial, and logistical expertise in the literature of the imaginary, as well as Hachette's means in terms of distribution, purchasing, and support functions. Its diagnosis points to an accelerated editorial program, increased inventory and returns, rising fixed costs, and a workforce that has become difficult to absorb. Bragelonne plans to slow down the publication pace, adjust print runs more, and focus the activity on the most promising segments, while announcing the intention to preserve the editorial identity of the labels. However, the submitted dossier remains very preliminary on the financial plan. Due to insufficient information at the time of submission, the price is set at 1 €, with the note "to be completed." The precise scope of assets, contracts, and inventory must still be determined. Bragelonne also plans to rehire a single employee. In the state of the submitted document, the proposal relies more on the industrial capacity claimed by Bragelonne and Hachette than on a fully quantified economic plan. Overlord Group is targeting a much broader perimeter: the candidate intends to acquire the entire assets included in its offer, notably the catalogue, publishing rights, brands, websites, client files, social media accounts, equipment, and inventory, while excluding the liabilities and several elements explicitly designated. The price remains very low: 5,000 €, of which 3,500 € for intangible assets, 1,000 € for equipment, and 500 € for inventory. The reasoning defended by Overlord is summarized in a few lines: the value of Eilean Books would primarily reside in its catalogue, brands, rights, and reader communities, much less in its current exploitation structure. The acquirer wants to eliminate the Paris lease, reduce the pace of new titles, calibrate print runs more, and develop digital, audio, rights sales, and direct sales. Support functions would be largely shared with the existing teams of Overlord Media. The restructuring would be heavy on the social front: only three full-time employees would be retained. Overlord announces a fund that could reach 250,000 €, of which 120,000 € immediately, to finance the acquisition, initial cash flow needs, inventory relocation, and initial reprints. It commits not to lay off employees for economic reasons for twenty-four months, except in exceptional events significantly affecting the activity, and plans a two-year priority for rehiring others. Finally, the candidate is willing to propose a temporary support contract to the Eilean Books management to ensure the transfer of the catalogue and relationships with authors, agents, and partners.
