Buffalo 8 Distribution has acquired the North American distribution rights to The Patient, a psychological thriller starring Kate Beckinsale and Ryan Phillippe. The deal was announced at the Toronto Film Festival market, a key event where film studios and distributors meet to negotiate deals. The film is set to be released across major Video on Demand (VOD) platforms in December, with a physical media release to follow later. VOD platforms allow viewers to stream or download content directly on their devices, while physical media includes formats like DVDs and Blu-rays. The Patient follows Ryan Phillippe’s character, a man who comes under the care of a mysterious doctor, played by Beckinsale. The film explores themes of trust, control, and psychological tension, as the protagonist navigates an increasingly unsettling environment. The story is designed to keep viewers guessing, with twists and turns that challenge the characters' perceptions of reality. Buffalo 8 Distribution is known for bringing a variety of independent and international films to North American audiences. By securing the rights to The Patient, the company continues its focus on delivering high-quality, thought-provoking content through both digital and physical formats. This acquisition highlights the growing importance of film festivals in shaping the distribution landscape, as they provide a platform for new films to connect with buyers and audiences. The film’s release on VOD platforms in December positions it to compete with other holiday releases, a time when audiences often seek engaging and suspenseful content. The decision to follow with a physical media release reflects the ongoing demand for tangible formats, even as digital consumption continues to rise. The Patient is expected to appeal to fans of psychological thrillers and those interested in performances by established actors like Beckinsale and Phillippe.
