A Los Angeles federal jury has found Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk not guilty of charges including murder-for-hire, conspiracy, and stalking resulting in death, related to the 2022 killing of rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin, Saviay'a Robinson. The case involved allegations that Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, had directed hit men to target Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman. The shooting took place near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles, where Rondo was the intended target, but the gunfire killed his cousin instead.
According to authorities, the plot against Rondo was believed to be retaliation for the earlier murder of Chicago-based rapper King Von, who was killed in a gunfire exchange outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta. Investigators said Lil Durk had publicly stated he would offer a reward, or "pay a bounty," to anyone who killed Rondo. The case also involved five others associated with Lil Durk’s Chicago-based rap collective known as "Only the Family" or "OTF."
During the trial, two co-defendants, Deandre "OTF Dede" Wilson and David "Browneyez" Lindsey, were convicted of stalking and conspiracy charges but found not guilty of murder-for-hire. Keith "Flacka" Jones, who was also charged, pleaded guilty to Robinson’s murder and testified against Lil Durk, Wilson, and Lindsey. Similarly, Kavon "OTF Vonnie" Grant pleaded guilty and testified against the trio.
Lil Durk, who recently won the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his song "All My Life" featuring J. Cole, had faced the possibility of a life sentence if convicted. This case marked a significant legal challenge for the rapper, who has also been nominated for Grammy Awards on three other occasions.
