End of linear broadcast announced

20 Minutes TV will stop its linear broadcast on November 29, as confirmed by its president, Sabina Gros, during an interview with CB News. This decision follows a report from La Lettre de l'Audiovisuel, a French media industry newsletter.

Reasons for the shutdown

Gros cited "audience fragmentation and the absence of a reliable monetization model" as the primary reasons for ending the linear broadcast. The channel had been broadcast on channel 32 but had not been commercialized by the 366 agency since the spring of 2026, after the agency decided to stop working with local TV stations.

Costs of terrestrial broadcasting

Despite 20 Minutes TV's efforts, the costs of terrestrial broadcasting were considered too high to be sustainable. The channel will continue to operate online, offering content through its website, YouTube, and social media platforms.

Changes to programming

Gros mentioned that the programming will be "rationalized," meaning the number of shows will be reduced. The channel previously had nearly 90 programs but now offers between 20 and 30, and this number will be cut further to around a dozen, including formats like Story or Planète C.

New content will continue

New launches, such as the pet-focused vertical 20 Animaux, which started this summer, will continue. The end of linear broadcasting will not impact the approximately 10 employees at 20 Minutes TV.
