The Tado° X thermostat is currently available at a nearly 50% discount on the Fnac website, reducing its price from 149.99 euros to 109.99 euros. This device combines a thermostat with a wall socket, allowing users to control indoor temperatures through a smartphone app. It is designed to be user-friendly, requiring only the replacement of an existing thermostat with the Tado° X model. The device can manage boiler control and the timing of hot water delivery, but it is not compatible with electric heating systems. Additionally, it does not work with the oldest boilers that support the V3 version of the system. Since it runs on batteries, it does not display the temperature continuously; instead, users must press a button on the front of the device and adjust the temperature using arrow keys. The Tado° X is undergoing an upgrade to the Thread/Matter standard, which is a new smart home communication protocol. This change allows the device to work with other smart home products such as Apple’s HomePod and Google’s Nest Hub. The transition is made easier with the Tado° X Matter Bridge, now available as a wall socket, which simplifies the installation process compared to the previous method that used an RJ45 connection. Users can now pair their devices by scanning QR codes through the app and set temperatures based on specific days or schedules. The Tado° X app is described as intuitive and straightforward to install, but the device has some drawbacks. Some features are hidden behind a subscription service, and it remains incompatible with electric heating systems. Although the price has dropped, the device still costs over 100 euros, which may make it less appealing to budget-conscious buyers. Despite these limitations, the Tado° X offers a modern approach to home temperature control, especially for those with compatible boiler systems.
