Match without Nantes fans

Five days before the Ligue 2 match between AS Saint-Etienne and FC Nantes, the prefecture of the Loire region banned Nantes supporters from attending the game at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. The decision means that the match, originally scheduled for Saturday, will take place without the presence of Nantes fans.

League standings

AS Saint-Etienne is currently leading Ligue 2 with 22 points, while FC Nantes is in 14th place with only 8 points. The match is part of the 10th round of the season and carries significant importance for both teams.

Reason for the ban

The prefecture cited multiple incidents involving supporters from both teams, especially the ultras—groups of passionate fans known for their intense support and sometimes controversial behavior—between 2013 and 2024. These incidents included various forms of violence and disorderly conduct.

Concerns about further unrest

Authorities also referenced acts of violence seen during a demonstration on October 17, warning that a "second act" of unrest could occur on Saturday, October 24. This concern has prompted the possibility of increased police presence at the match.

Potential changes to stadium access

According to Le Progrès, AS Saint-Etienne may sell the visitor parking areas to their own supporters, a practice used in previous matches against teams like Montpellier. This could help accommodate more of their fans despite the absence of Nantes supporters.
