Brazil national team coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he will continue to select 19-year-old winger Estevao for the national team, even though the player has not been getting much playing time at his club, Chelsea. Estevao joined the Premier League side from Brazilian club Palmeiras in August 2022 and made his debut that same month. Though his first season at Chelsea was affected by injuries, he still managed 36 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals. This season, he has made six appearances, but only four of those have been in the Premier League, and all as a substitute. Xabi Alonso, the current head coach of Chelsea, has implemented a preferred formation that features a set front three of Morgan Rogers, Joao Pedro, and Cole Palmer. This setup makes it unclear whether Estevao will get many starting opportunities at the club. However, Ancelotti, who previously managed Chelsea from 2009 to 2011, emphasized that the situation at Stamford Bridge will not influence his decisions as Brazil's coach. "Estevao is a very important player for the national team," Ancelotti said. "Sometimes the club's interests are not the same as the national team's interests. For us, Estevao, along with other young players, is very, very important, and if he doesn't play, if he doesn't get minutes at the club, I'm going to call him up, because we think he's very important for the future." Estevao has also spoken about his current situation at Chelsea after reports suggested he is growing unhappy with his lack of playing time. "I think every coach has their own way of playing," he said. "Of course, we work every day, I give my best every day, and that's what I do. We have quality players at Chelsea, so what I do is focus on what I can control. I try to give my best in training." The 11-cap Brazil international added, "When I get an opportunity, I try to give my best; it goes day after day. I try to seize every opportunity I have, I try to control everything I can, and I leave it in God's hands, and I trust myself a lot, too." Brazil's international schedule this time around is somewhat unusual, featuring two friendly matches against Australia and a third against India. These games provide an opportunity for players like Estevao to gain more experience and exposure on the international stage, even if their club careers are not currently offering the same opportunities.
