Marine Tondelier, an ecological politician and candidate for the 2027 French presidential election, emphasized the importance of unity among left-wing parties during an interview with BFMTV on September 5. She expressed frustration over the current division within the left, saying, "Who could have predicted that divided, the left would not win?" Tondelier argued that when left-wing candidates are not united, each one risks running into defeat individually, and none will succeed alone. She announced plans to meet with all left-wing candidates in the coming weeks to "write a possible path to victory for the left." Tondelier stressed that the Ecologists' commitment to this goal is "clear, unshakable," and she warned that those who refuse to listen would "bear the responsibility" for any failure. Tondelier also clarified that her main political opponents are not other left-wing candidates, but rather the right and far-right parties. She reiterated that "we have no right to lose separately an election that we could win together," and especially not the upcoming one. Earlier in the day, during a speech at the Lille braderie, a traditional fair in northern France, she criticized the proliferation of left-wing candidates, stating that "left candidates continue to multiply." She predicted that in the 2027 election, "it is clear, there will be Marine Le Pen in the second round," referring to the leader of the far-right National Rally party. Tondelier explained that there will be one additional spot in the second round of the election, and she said it will go to "either someone from the right or someone from the left." She added that the winner of that second round will be the candidate from the "least divided camp or rather the most united camp," a statement she described as "mathematical." Tondelier again warned that "we have no right to lose separately an election that we could win together," and she emphasized that "we will have no excuses" if the National Rally wins the election. Her message is clear: unity among left-wing forces is essential to prevent a far-right victory.
