Avolon, an Irish company that rents out aircraft to airlines, has announced a large order for 250 new planes. This includes 140 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and 110 from the Airbus A320/330neo families. Specifically, the order includes 75 planes from the A320neo family and 35 A330-900 models, with the possibility to order an additional 100 Airbus planes in the future. The deal still needs to be approved by Avolon's main owner, Chinese Bohai Leasing, which is expected to happen by the end of October. According to Airbus, this agreement increases Avolon's confirmed orders for the A330neo program to 114 planes and for the A320neo family to 650. The contract with Boeing includes the purchase of 140 737 MAX aircraft, although the exact models have not yet been named. Avolon had previously ordered Boeing's 737-8 and 737-10 models. Together, these two orders bring Avolon's confirmed plane orders to 749 aircraft. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, executive vice president of sales for Airbus' Commercial Aircraft division, said the order is significant, covering both the A330neo and the A320neo family. He noted that Avolon's decision confirms its position as the top lessor for the A330-900 model. He added that the acquisition shows strong demand for these Airbus models among lessors, who find them appealing and flexible for different types of flights.
