Manchester United has started selling small pieces of their historic Old Trafford pitch for £125 each. This initiative was announced on the same day the club revealed that its overall debt remains above £1 billion. The first batch of these unique memorabilia items has already sold out, indicating strong public interest. Despite the financial challenges, Manchester United reported a revenue of £677.6 million and an operating profit of £22.6 million for the 2025-26 financial year. However, the club recorded a pre-tax loss of £43 million, highlighting the ongoing financial pressures it faces. Additionally, the club confirmed that £63.5 million had been spent on acquiring land for a new stadium, which is projected to cost over £2 billion in total. For the first time in 14 years, the Old Trafford pitch was excavated this summer as part of preparations for the new stadium. The pitch was stripped back to its foundation, with some sections of the turf preserved. These preserved pieces, measuring 7x7cm, were placed in glass cubes and presented in black cases. The club’s website describes these cubes as "priceless mementos of iconic games played at home and keeps the memories of matchdays alive." This initiative aims to offer fans a unique way to connect with the club’s history and legacy, even as the club moves forward with significant changes to its home ground.
