According to Fallout veteran Bruce Nesmith, Fallout 5 could represent a significant shift for the post-apocalyptic video game series, potentially introducing a new setting that has never been explored before. While Fallout 5 is currently under consideration, it is unlikely to be released for many years. Bethesda, the game developer behind the Fallout series, is currently focused on The Elder Scrolls 6, a project first announced in 2016, which is expected to be released no earlier than 2030. As a result, Fallout 5 remains a distant possibility for fans of the franchise. Nesmith shared his thoughts on the potential direction of Fallout 5 in an interview with Insider Gaming. When asked where he would set the game if he had creative freedom, he suggested locations outside the United States, such as London and Paris, or even New Orleans if the series remained in the U.S. This idea is not entirely new, as the Fallout London mod has demonstrated that the Fallout universe can be successfully transplanted to European settings, with convincing results. However, some fans and developers have expressed concerns that moving the Fallout series away from the United States might affect its core identity. The franchise is deeply rooted in American culture, including its lore around Vault-Tec, a company inspired by 1950s American technology and design. Todd Howard, a key figure at Bethesda, has previously stated that Fallout would not leave the United States. Still, as Nesmith noted, nothing is certain, and Bethesda’s plans could evolve over time. Until Fallout 5 is officially announced or released, fans will have to wait. With The Elder Scrolls 6 taking up much of Bethesda’s resources, the next Fallout game remains a long-term project. Whether or not it will take place outside the U.S. remains an open question, but the possibility has sparked interest and speculation among the gaming community.
