Live coverage of the Women’s Super League (WSL) match between Manchester United and Chelsea is set to begin at 12pm BST at Leigh Sports Village. This is the first match of the new season for both teams, and they are looking to bounce back after dropping points in their opening games last weekend. Manchester United lost 2-1 to London City Lionesses, while Chelsea drew 1-1 with Aston Villa. Historically, Chelsea has had the upper hand in recent encounters, winning five of their last six matches against United, with the remaining game ending in a draw. However, as the season starts fresh, the outcome of this match remains unpredictable. Chelsea is missing several key players due to injuries. Melvine Malard, Mayra Ramirez, and Manaka Matsukubo are all unavailable after sustaining injuries during training. Manchester United also has absences in their squad, with Jayde Riviere and Emma Watson out of action. These absences could impact both teams’ strategies and performance in the match. Manchester United’s starting XI includes Phallon Tullis-Joyce as goalkeeper, with a strong defensive line composed of Hanna Lundkvist, Maya Le Tissier (captain), Dominique Janssen, and Andrea Medina. The midfield will be led by Hinata Miyazawa and Julia Zigiotti, while the attack features Jess Park, Ella Toone, Monica Jusu Bah, and Elisabeth Terland. A number of substitutes are also on standby, including Janina Leitzig, Scarlett Hill, and others, providing depth and flexibility for the match. Chelsea’s starting line-up features Hannah Hampton in goal, supported by a defensive line of Ellie Carpenter, Lucy Bronze (captain), Kadeisha Buchanan, and Katie McCabe. Keira Walsh and Lexi Potter are set to control the midfield, with Sjoeke Nüsken, Wieke Kaptein, Alyssa Thompson, and Lauren James leading the attack. The substitutes include players like Livia Peng, Veerle Buurman, and Nathalie Björn, ready to step in if needed. Both teams are expected to bring strong line-ups to the pitch, aiming for a competitive and intense match.
