Hibernian Football Club has appointed Dutch coach Marink Reedijk as their new head coach, replacing David Gray, who was dismissed eight days ago following a challenging start to the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season. Reedijk, 35, joins Hibernian after two successful seasons at Belgian club Beveren, where he led them to promotion to the top flight with an unbeaten record. Prior to that, he worked in youth development roles at Ajax and West Bromwich Albion, and also managed senior teams at KSV Roeselare, Vitesse, and RSCA Futures. Reedijk has expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead, stating he is "honoured" to be appointed and believes he can help shape a "brave, intense, and committed" Hibernian team. He emphasized that the club's clear ambitions and direction were key factors in his decision to accept the role. His vision includes building a team that plays with purpose, gives maximum effort, and inspires fan support. Reedijk will be supported by assistant coach Rogier Molhoek at Hibernian’s Easter Road stadium. The club described the appointment as an "exciting moment" in its development. Hibernian are currently in 10th place in the Premiership, with just two wins in their first seven games of the season. They also suffered an early exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League. Despite the difficult start, the club has had recent successes, including finishing third in the 2024/25 season and reaching the League Cup semi-finals under Gray, where they will now face local rivals Hearts. Sporting director Malky Mackay said Reedijk’s appointment is not a dramatic shift in strategy but a continuation of the club’s ongoing evolution. He highlighted that Reedijk’s coaching style—proactive, energetic, and focused on player development—aligns closely with Hibernian’s goals. Mackay praised Reedijk’s ability to foster individual growth while building a strong, unified team environment, which he believes will be crucial for the club’s future success.
