Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 18, 2026, following the release of the iPhone 17 Pro a year earlier. The iPhone 17 Pro is no longer available in Apple's stores since the launch of its successor on September 9, 2026, but resellers continue to offer it. The iPhone 17 Pro 256 GB model, which was launched for 1,329 euros in September 2025, is now available on Amazon at 1,189 euros, representing a 140 euro discount, or just over 10 percent off. The iPhone 18 Pro 256 GB model starts at 1,479 euros, which is 150 euros more than the original launch price of the iPhone 17 Pro. The iPhone 17 Pro is also available at 1,189 euros on the Joybuy website. The iPhone 17 Pro marked a design change for Apple, as it abandoned titanium in favor of a monolithic aluminum chassis, and its camera module spans the entire width of the back. The iPhone 18 Pro retains the general design of its predecessor, with nearly identical dimensions. The A19 Pro chip is cooled by a vapor chamber, a sealed compartment containing a liquid that dissipates heat more effectively than a metal plate. This is useful for gaming or video, when a smartphone that overheats eventually limits its performance. The 6.3-inch screen reaches a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, making it readable in direct sunlight. In terms of photography, the three rear sensors (wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and telephoto) all switch to 48 megapixels. The telephoto lens allows for an 8x zoom, which Apple describes as optical quality. For selfies and video calls, the front camera increases to 18 megapixels. Compared to the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro mainly lacks two things: first, the new A20 Pro chip, and second, the variable aperture of the main camera. On the iPhone 18 Pro, it varies the amount of light entering the lens (from f/1.48 to f/4), as on a traditional camera. If you like to play with background blur, this absence will be noticeable. For vacation photos and daily videos, the difference is much thinner. For the rest, the A19 Pro chip remains largely sufficient for intensive daily use. Apple has increased the price of the iPhone 18 Pro, which officially starts at 1,479 euros, while the two models share a large part of their camera and screen specifications. With this promotion, the difference between the two 256 GB models reaches 290 euros. In addition to its A20 Pro chip, the iPhone 18 Pro also gains a new vapor chamber, whose surface area is three times larger than that of the iPhone 17 Pro, to better dissipate heat and maintain performance over time, and improved battery life. However, its release does not suddenly make the iPhone 17 Pro obsolete. For someone who primarily seeks a high-end smartphone, powerful, durable, and equipped with an excellent camera, the previous year's model still holds significant interest.
