A unique exhibition by filmmaker and visual artist Jacques Perconte is currently on display at the Michel Ciry Museum in Varengeville-sur-Mer, running until November 1, 2026. The exhibition features thirty-three prints from the À fleur de forêt series, as well as a triptych video titled À fleur de terre. This event is part of the Normandie Impressionniste 2026 festival, which highlights contemporary and historical art inspired by the region. The exhibition runs alongside À fleur de mer, a video installation that was accessible to visitors at Rouen station during the summer. The exhibition includes a variety of works such as Impressions (2012), Albâtre (2018), and Salammo (2022), where rocky landscapes transform into liquid or vaporous forms, with pixelated images of gulls flying across them. Perconte has been exploring the Albâtre coast for nearly two decades, capturing the changing light on the waves and the white chalk cliffs with his camera. His work often transforms familiar scenery into something new, as he repeatedly passes by the same twisted trees in the woods of Communes, looking out over the sea from the cliffs. The exhibition also includes detailed prints such as "Image no. 847, les Communes," which are hand-detailed video data compressions, digitally printed on high-quality photo paper and framed in oak wood from the Pays de Caux region. These prints reflect the blue flowering of shrubs that thrive in the humid and acidic soils of the coastal forests. Perconte filmed these landscapes across different seasons, allowing him to see familiar places in new ways. The artist was granted access to several private gardens in the surrounding area, including Clos d'Ailly and Jardin Bleu, which provided him with unique perspectives. His camera captures the textures and colors of these wooded gardens, highlighting the rich palette found in Varengeville — from the deep purple blue of hydrangeas to the vibrant fuchsia pink of rhododendrons. The exhibition includes a triptych video titled À fleur de terre and thirty-three prints from the À fleur de forêt series, offering a comprehensive view of Perconte’s artistic journey through the natural beauty of the region.
