Vice President's address and focus

Vice President Chantal Galenon, who has been responsible for the LGBT cause since 2025, will address the LGBT community, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive Pacific. She will highlight the integration of the LGBT community in Polynesia.

Legal and social context

Galenon noted that while homosexuality is still prohibited in six countries in the region, many LGBT individuals have achieved significant positions and contributions. She also praised the financial assistance provided by Australia for organizing the event.

Challenges faced by the community

Karell Luciani, president of the association Cousins, cousines, representing the LGBT community in Polynesia, noted that some individuals still suffer from homophobia. He cited the suicides of three young people aged 13, 14, and 17 due to parental homophobia.

Conference agenda and expected outcomes

The conference's program includes discussions on decolonization and the movement's progress, justice and system transformation, and accountability, funding, and future strategies. Expected outcomes include a final declaration outlining regional priorities and human rights commitments.

Additional outcomes and commitments

The conference also aims to produce an accountability pact detailing actions and timelines, a declaration from young participants, and thematic recommendations from caucuses and workshops. These outcomes are intended to guide future efforts in promoting human rights in the Pacific.
