Whoopi Goldberg, the 70-year-old comedian, actress, and long-time co-host of the ABC daytime talk show The View, has announced she will be absent from several upcoming episodes of the show beginning September 22. The news was shared during an interview with The View executive producer Brian Teta on the show's podcast, Behind the Table. The View is currently celebrating its 30th season, marking three decades of discussion on current events, culture, and entertainment.
Goldberg will take a two-week hiatus to work on the Netflix film Women Like Us, which is being produced by former First Lady Michelle Obama. During her absence, several former co-hosts of The View, including Lisa Ling, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd, and Debbie Matenopoulos, will step in to fill in. Current co-host Joy Behar will also serve as the panel’s moderator during this time.
Goldberg described Women Like Us as a film about "change and getting older and having fun with your friends and people who get you," and expressed excitement about being part of the project. This will not be the first time she has taken a break from The View to work on other projects. Previously, she paused her co-hosting duties to film the Italian soap opera Un Posto Al Sole and the Anansi Boys TV adaptation.
Goldberg has been the moderator of The View's Hot Topics segment since 2007 and holds the record for the most consecutive seasons as the show’s host, surpassing its original creator, Barbara Walters. In addition to her television work, she has recently launched her own book imprint, WhoopInk, and is planning to publish a sequel to her memoir through the imprint.
