New platform for retro gaming

RecompLauncher is a new community platform that offers a way to run games from older consoles on PC and Mac without using traditional emulators. It hosts over 200 game porting projects, including popular titles like GTA Vice City Stories and Super Mario 64.

Games in various stages of development

While the platform lists many games, not all of the 200 projects are playable or complete. Some are still in development, and the number of projects is expected to increase as the community continues to work on new ports.

Different approach to emulation

RecompLauncher uses a technique called static recompilation, which converts console game code into native applications that run on PC. This method allows for features like higher resolutions, wide screen support, and unlocked frame rates, which are not typically available with traditional emulators.

Platform focuses on user management

The platform aims to provide a centralized application for managing and installing these games, compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS. However, only a web version is currently available, while the desktop software is still being developed.

No commercial game files provided

It is important to note that RecompLauncher does not provide any commercial game files. Users must already have the necessary game files to use the platform. Source: Videocardz
