Intel is reportedly preparing a new version of its Raptor Lake processor architecture, called Raptor Lake Next, which is expected to focus on high-end laptop processors. According to the website VideoCardz, these new chips will be reserved for the HX segment, which includes the most powerful and performance-oriented laptops. The new processors are expected to be named Core 2000HX, following the naming convention used for Intel’s Nova Lake chips, such as the Core Ultra 4000HX. The top-tier model in the Raptor Lake Next lineup would be the Core 9 2000HX, featuring 24 cores split into 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. Alongside it, two Core 7 models are mentioned: one with 20 cores (8 performance and 12 efficiency) and another with 14 cores (6 performance and 8 efficiency). These configurations are similar to those found in existing Raptor Lake-HX processors, which are already used in high-performance laptops. The Raptor Lake Next lineup is not expected to include entry-level chips or laptops aimed at families or general users. Instead, it is designed for content creators and professionals with high-performance computing needs. Intel has stated that it does not plan to release models from the H, P, or U series, which are typically used in mainstream and low-power laptops. Additionally, the company is not aiming to radically change the laptop market with this release, as it is relying on the Nova Lake architecture for more groundbreaking innovations. The return of Raptor Lake Next may be influenced by the ongoing memory crisis, particularly the high prices of DDR5 memory. Raptor Lake processors are compatible with both DDR5 and DDR4 memory, with DDR4 being more affordable. This dual compatibility could give Intel a strategic advantage, potentially helping to lower laptop prices slightly. However, the exact pricing for the new Raptor Lake Next lineup has not yet been announced.
