No new Ebola cases reported

Kenya's Ministry of Health has reported no new cases of Ebola following the country's first death from the virus, which occurred last week. This indicates that the outbreak may be contained, though monitoring continues.

Extensive testing conducted

Since the death, nearly 300 samples have been analyzed to determine the extent of the outbreak. These tests are part of a broader effort to identify any additional cases and prevent further spread.

Quarantine measures in place

Of the 122 contacts of the "index patient" recorded, 108 are currently in quarantine and none are showing symptoms. Quarantine is a standard public health measure to monitor individuals who may have been exposed to a contagious disease.

Patient's travel history

The deceased patient, a Kenyan who lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), had returned to his country by road to Uganda before taking a flight to Nairobi. This travel history is important in understanding how the virus may have spread.

Kenya's fourth case in the epidemic

Kenya is the fourth country to report a case linked to the ongoing Ebola epidemic in the DRC. The DRC has been the epicenter of the outbreak, with more than 8,000 cases and 4,000 deaths recorded since May.

Public urged to stay vigilant

Kenyan authorities are urging the population to remain calm but vigilant and are asking anyone concerned about possible exposure or experiencing symptoms to consult a doctor. Public awareness and prompt medical attention are key to controlling outbreaks.
