Les glaces, a graphic novel by Rébecca Déraspe with illustrations by Yoakim Bélanger, delves into the emotional and psychological impact of a buried trauma resurfacing when a mother discovers her son is accused of sexual assault. The story follows Noémie, who is forced to confront a violent experience from her past that she believed she had left behind. This leads her to seek out the two men who assaulted her twenty years ago on the shores of the Saint-Laurent River. Through Noémie’s journey, the novel raises questions about how to deal with truths that come back into the light and how the past can compel people to reevaluate their understanding of themselves and their lives. The graphic novel was first presented at the Avignon Off Festival in 2026, a renowned event for experimental and emerging theatrical works. It is published by Écosociété editions as part of their Ricochets collection, which focuses on innovative and socially conscious storytelling. The collection aims to highlight works that challenge conventional narratives and explore complex human experiences.
