A new bookstore named The Lamp-Post is set to open in the Saint-Paul village of the 4th arrondissement in Paris during the spring of 2027. The co-founders, Destiny Promise Ellis and Jameson Workman, bring together experience in business and academia to create a space that combines book retail with a more personal, literary atmosphere. Their goal is to offer a range of books, including rare editions, second-hand titles, and new releases, along with various artifacts and curiosities. The bookstore will be located at 21, rue Saint-Paul, and will initially occupy about 37 square meters on the first floor, featuring small antiques, stationery, and other unique items. On the ground floor, the main bookstore will span approximately fifty square meters, offering a more expansive selection of books and reading materials. Above that, a private library of about thirty square meters will be accessible to members, creating a more exclusive reading and study environment. The space will also host events such as conferences and meetings, primarily in English but with some French-language elements to reflect the local context. The renovation and layout of the space are ongoing, with the team including Tommy Marcoon and Sara Linard working to bring the vision to life. The official opening of The Lamp-Post is scheduled for March 20, 2027, with plans for celebrations, anniversaries, and social gatherings to mark the occasion. The project aims to stand out from other well-known bookstores in Paris, such as Shakespeare and Co, by clearly separating the retail space from any branding or additional commercial areas. This approach emphasizes a more focused, literary experience for visitors, encouraging reading, discussion, and community engagement around books and ideas.
