Alberto Bruttomesso, a 22-year-old cyclist for the Bahrain-Victorious team, has been provisionally suspended for doping by the Italian National Anti-Doping Court (NADO Italia). The suspension was announced this Wednesday and follows a process initiated by the court itself. The decision is based on articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the World Anti-Doping Code, which prohibit the presence of a banned substance in a biological sample or the use of a prohibited method or product. However, the court has not yet disclosed the specific substance involved or the date of the alleged violation. Bruttomesso has been suspended from all team activities while the investigation continues. His team, Bahrain-Victorious, confirmed the suspension in a statement and expressed its support for the rider during the process. The team said it would fully cooperate with anti-doping authorities and emphasized its commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity and respect for the anti-doping procedures. Until the matter is resolved, Bruttomesso will not participate in any team-related activities. Bruttomesso has been a professional cyclist since 2024 and is under contract with Bahrain-Victorious until 2027. He has already made a name for himself in the cycling world, having won a stage in the Giro Next Gen in 2022. In 2024, he finished third in a stage of the Tour of Croatia and another stage of the Tour of Guangxi. These performances have highlighted his potential as a rising talent in the sport. The provisional suspension is a significant development in Bruttomesso’s career, as it could affect his participation in future races and his standing in the cycling community. The outcome of the investigation will determine whether the suspension becomes permanent or if he is cleared of any wrongdoing. The case underscores the strict enforcement of anti-doping regulations in professional sports, which aim to ensure fair competition and protect the integrity of the sport.
