French customs authorities have seized nearly 15 million euros worth of drugs in a major operation on September 3. During the inspection of a motorhome traveling from Spain to Germany, officers from the Hendaye customs brigade discovered 334.40 kg of cocaine and 485.20 kg of cannabis resin hidden in a double-bottom compartment at the front of the vehicle. The discovery was made after a customs dog alerted officers to the area. The driver was brought before the judicial court in Bayonne on September 7 and is scheduled to be tried on October 12. He is currently in provisional detention while awaiting the trial.
This seizure is part of a series of recent drug interdictions by French customs. Earlier in August, authorities in Dijon intercepted 231 kg of cocaine, and in Bourges, they seized 109 kg of the drug. These operations highlight the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking across the country's borders.
Since the beginning of the year, French customs have intercepted a significant amount of illicit substances, including 31.26 tons of cocaine and 67.73 tons of cannabis. These figures underscore the persistent challenge of drug smuggling through France, particularly along major transit routes. The Hendaye operation, with its large quantity of narcotics, is one of the most significant seizures of the year and reflects the increasing scale of drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
