Red Star Belgrade has been issued a final warning by the EuroLeague after incidents during their opening match against Zalgiris Kaunas. The club reported that fans used laser pointers, sang offensive chants directed at players and referees, set off smoke bombs, and threw objects onto the court during the game. These actions disrupted the match and drew criticism from officials. This is not the first time Red Star Belgrade has faced consequences for the behavior of its supporters. Last season, the club was penalized for similar incidents, leading to an 80% reduction in the capacity of the Belgrade Arena. For the match against Zalgiris Kaunas, the club had already been sanctioned with a 20% reduction in attendance. Now, a new penalty has been issued, with a suspended sentence that could result in harsher consequences if such behavior occurs again. Red Star Belgrade has reminded its supporters that they could face new sanctions if they continue with inappropriate behavior. The club has urged fans to support the team in a more respectful manner, emphasizing that throwing objects, using lasers, or insulting players and officials is unacceptable. It called on supporters to embrace fair play and sportsmanship during matches. If another incident occurs, the club could be forced to play a match without spectators or with a significantly reduced crowd. Additionally, the club may face substantial financial penalties. The warning underscores the importance of maintaining proper conduct in professional sports and the potential repercussions for continued misconduct.
