Karol G took the stage at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Thursday as part of her Tropitour, a massive concert series celebrating her upcoming 2025 album Tropicoqueta. This marked the first time she has headlined the stadium, which has hosted major events like the Super Bowl and concerts by artists such as Taylor Swift and U2. The tour, named after her new album, will take her to over 60 stadiums across North America, Latin America, and Europe. The performance showcased a fusion of Latin music styles, including mambo, merengue, salsa, and cumbia, reflecting the album's diverse influences. During the concert, Karol G performed a unique segment where she answered a phone call from an unknown person, explaining she was in New York and couldn’t take the call. The event featured actor Edward James Olmos, who appeared on screen as the emcee, introducing her with titles like "the queen of the tropics" and "la explosión Latina." She performed in a full-feathered headdress for a powerful rendition of Tropicoqueta, and also delivered a cumbia version of her 2021 hit Bichota and a salsa version of her 2019 collaboration with Nicki Minaj, Tusa. The concert included appearances by several other Latin music artists, including Spanish and Venezuelan singer Judeline, Spanish singer and producer rusowsky, and Puerto Rican producer Tainy. Fireworks lit up the night sky during the performance of BbY WOW, a song currently atop the Billboard charts. Karol G also reimagined some of her older hits, adapting them to match the genre-blending style of Tropicoqueta. Earlier in the day, opener Elena Rose made a statement about her photographer, Oby, who had been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the airport. The concert concluded with an energetic, almost unrecognizable version of Provenza, featuring a remix, fireworks, and a high-energy spectacle that left the crowd in a frenzy.
