Play explores digital validation through absurdist story
A new play titled Un pouce en cavale by Myriam Boudenia uses an absurdist detective story to examine the theme of digital validation. The narrative follows two investigators from a fictional unit known as the Brigade de Recherche des Données Immatérielles (BRDI) as they search for a missing "like" symbol, a metaphor for online approval and interaction.Setting spans global and digital landscapes
The play’s plot involves the investigators traveling around the world and into digital infrastructure such as undersea cables, Arctic data centers, and even space. These locations represent the vast and often invisible networks that support the internet and digital communication.Scenography is playful and handmade
The production features a playful and handmade stage design, including a large map that visually represents the internet. This creative approach helps to make complex digital concepts more accessible and engaging for the audience.Targeted for children and families
The play is described as suitable for children aged 9 and up and is being presented as a family-friendly theatrical experience. Its tone and content aim to entertain while also prompting reflection on the role of digital validation in modern life.Staging and support details
Un pouce en cavale is being staged at La Comédie, CDN de Saint-Etienne, from 13 to 20 November 2026, with additional tour dates planned from 12 to 16 January 2027 and 2 February 2027. The production is supported by the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the City of Lyon.
