Hundreds of people were evacuated after a major fire broke out at the Grand Burstin Hotel in The Harbour, Folkestone, on Saturday morning. Emergency services responded quickly, with fire crews indicating that the blaze originated in the basement of the building. Approximately 280 individuals were evacuated, and a welfare center was set up by Folkestone and Hythe District Council at Three Hills Sports Park to support those affected. No injuries related to the fire have been reported, and the cause of the blaze remains unknown. At its peak, 26 fire engines were present at the scene, according to the fire service. They stated that a fire is currently ongoing at the Grand Burstin Hotel and advised nearby residents to close all windows and doors, avoid the area, and follow the instructions of emergency services. They also emphasized the importance of keeping roads clear to allow emergency vehicles to access the area. The council is working closely with emergency services to ensure the safety of those evacuated and to provide further updates as more information becomes available. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) confirmed that 10 fire engines remain at the scene as crews work to dampen down any remaining hotspots. Firefighters were seen wearing breathing apparatus to protect themselves from smoke and heat while bringing the fire under control.
