Rima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament from the French political group La France insoumise (LFI), announced on September 18 that she is filing a formal complaint against Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez before the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR). The complaint is based on allegations that Nuñez violated investigation secrecy and concealed information that should have remained confidential. The claim comes after it was discovered that Nuñez had contributed to the spread of false information about the alleged discovery of synthetic drugs in Hassan's personal belongings during a police interrogation in April. That investigation was later closed without further action, confirming the allegations were untrue. According to the investigative program Complément d'enquête, Nuñez "partially contributed to the dissemination" of the false claims. LFI, the political group Hassan belongs to, has called the situation a "state scandal" and is demanding that Nuñez resign from his position. During a train journey back from an official trip to Bordeaux with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, Nuñez is said to have shared details about the alleged drugs and Hassan's explanation that she had bought them in Belgium, thinking they were legal. On September 17, Nuñez denied organizing the leaks during a session at the National Assembly. He claimed that journalists already had access to the information and that he had urged them to exercise caution. However, LFI members, including Gabrielle Cathala, challenged his statements, insisting that Nuñez had provided the information himself. Rima Hassan, along with her allies such as LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon and National Assembly group president Mathilde Panot, has criticized Nuñez's actions as an attempt at political manipulation and has called for his resignation. Nuñez's team described his interactions with journalists as informal and based on information already available to the public. The Court of Justice of the Republic, which deals with cases involving misconduct by government officials, is now reviewing the complaint. Rima Hassan's lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, emphasized that the situation is too serious to be ignored and hopes the complaint will prompt a swift investigation.
