The Azerbaijan Grand Prix, scheduled for 24–26 September as part of the 2026 Formula 1 season, will take place for the first time on a Saturday. This marks a change from previous years, when the event was typically held in the first half of the year. In 2024, the race was moved to September as part of a swap with Japan’s Grand Prix. The decision to hold the race on a Saturday was made at the request of the event’s promoter and government officials, according to Formula 1. The race weekend will overlap with Azerbaijan’s Remembrance Day on 27 September, a national day of mourning for military personnel who died during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh war in 2020. The event will be broadcast across BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds, and the BBC Sport website and app. Listeners can also access the coverage through smart speakers by asking them to "play 5 Live." Post-race shows for each grand prix will be available on BBC iPlayer and YouTube, and commentary will be accessible via the same platforms. This ensures wide availability for fans unable to attend in person. The race weekend will follow a standard Formula 1 schedule, with practice and qualifying sessions spread across Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, 24 September, the first practice session will run from 09:30 to 10:30, followed by the second practice session from 13:00 to 14:00. On Friday, 25 September, the third practice session will take place from 09:30 to 10:30, with qualifying from 13:00 to 14:00. The race itself will start at 12:00 BST on Saturday, 26 September. Weather forecasts suggest the event will take place under mostly sunny conditions. Thursday’s practice sessions are expected to see temperatures around 27°C, with strong winds present. Qualifying on Friday is predicted to have slightly cooler temperatures, around 24°C, but with similar wind conditions. The race on Saturday is expected to be around 25°C, with a fresh breeze, making for potentially challenging but manageable conditions for drivers.
