President Donald Trump has donated $10 million from his MAGA Inc. super PAC to Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton, marking his first major contribution of the midterm election cycle. The donation includes $5 million for negative advertisements targeting Democrat James Talarico and $5 million for positive ads promoting Paxton, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission. Both donations were directed to Del Ray Media Inc., a political media company responsible for television and digital advertising. MAGA Inc., a super PAC known for supporting conservative candidates, holds over $400 million in funds. This is the first major donation from the group in this midterm cycle. Previously, MAGA Inc. had spent only about $18,000 in 2026 on a midterm race and about $1.7 million last year. By the end of the second quarter of 2026, the PAC had raised $401 million. The only prior donation was $827,000 to South Carolina Senator Darline Graham's campaign. Ken Paxton, the current Texas attorney general, is facing a closely contested race against Talarico. Polling from the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas at Austin showed that 61% of Republicans approve of Paxton as of August. However, Paxton has faced criticism during his tenure, including an impeachment trial in 2023 over allegations of bribery, neglect of duty, and misconduct. During the trial, it was revealed that Paxton had an affair, and his wife, a state senator, later filed for divorce. James Talarico is running closely with Paxton in most polls, despite Texas not having a Democratic senator in 33 years. Talarico has faced growing criticism from Trump, who recently dubbed him "Tala-freako" and called him "one of the worst candidates I have ever seen." In response, Talarico has sold T-shirts featuring the nickname. Trump has stated he has raised about $850 million and plans to spend a significant portion on Republican candidates he considers "good." He also urged voters to "pretend, please, that I'm on the ballot" during a rally for Graham in South Carolina.
