DeepSeek, a leading Chinese artificial intelligence company, has set a revenue target of $1 billion, according to reports from The Information. The company’s annualized revenue has grown significantly, more than doubling from less than $500 million a few months ago. This growth is attributed to recent price increases and strong demand for DeepSeek’s AI models. In August, DeepSeek warned developers of a significant increase in the price of its API, with prices rising approximately 2.3 to 4.5 times, depending on the models used. Despite these increases, customers have remained, according to founder Liang Wenfeng, who shared this with investors.
The revenue figure is annualized, meaning it projects recent revenues onto a full year and does not represent actual sums received by the company at this time. According to The Information, DeepSeek generated about $70.7 million during the first seven months of 2026, approximately ten times its revenue for the entire year of 2025. Most of these revenues come from developers who pay to use DeepSeek’s models through its API. The company’s chatbot remains free for users, so it does not generate revenue from end consumers.
DeepSeek is nearing the conclusion of its second round of financing, which involves a $7.5 billion funding round. However, this round has faced some challenges. In July, DeepSeek paused the funding round after statements made by Liang had leaked and circulated on Chinese social networks. In admitting that China was still far behind the United States in the field of AI and that the country was very dependent on NVIDIA chips, the statements did not help attract investors. Negotiations resumed in August, and DeepSeek has only begun to accept funding since 2026.
The young company closed its first round of funding at about $7 billion in June, but Liang himself, the company's boss, would have contributed a significant portion of this amount. This indicates a strong personal commitment to the company's growth and development. As DeepSeek continues to scale its operations and navigate both financial and public relations challenges, it remains a key player in the rapidly evolving AI industry.
