Luna Pro Simplified Design

Insta360 has simplified its Luna Ultra pocket camera by removing the telephoto lens to create the Luna Pro, making it lighter and more affordable. The camera now weighs 215 grams and is 14 mm shorter in height compared to the Luna Ultra.

Luna Pro Specifications and Pricing

The Luna Pro retains a one-inch sensor, a Leica Summicron 20 mm lens with an f/1.8 aperture, and a detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen. It can film up to 8K at 30 images per second, 4K up to 120 i/s, and Full HD up to 240 i/s. It is available in five different packs, starting at 529 € for the standard pack and going up to 635 € for the POV pack.

Remote Control and Ergonomics

The detachable screen of the Luna Pro functions as a remote control with a touchscreen, joystick, zoom toggle, and record button, usable up to twenty meters away. The camera also features an ergonomic design with a flip interface and a backup microphone on the front. The screen can tilt to 90°, and the removable handle includes a small metal wire tripod and a standard screw thread.

Photography Capabilities and Image Quality

While photography is not the main focus of the Luna Pro, the one-inch sensor offers improved performance compared to smartphone modules or action cameras. It captures more light, resulting in less noise and better dynamic range. The camera produces images of 9 megapixels by default, with the UltraPhoto mode reaching up to 37 megapixels.

Video Features and Limitations

The Luna Pro can record natively in 4K 9:16 at 30 i/s, ideal for social media content. However, the zoom is limited to 2x without loss, while AI-assisted zoom up to 4x results in slightly softer images. The camera’s stabilization is highly effective, with a vibration range of ±0.005°, providing smooth shots in motion or walking scenarios.

Audio and Battery Life

The Luna Pro includes four microphones, with the option to record at 48 kHz and 32-bit for editing. The battery life is up to 240 minutes with the built-in 1550 mAh battery, though performance varies with usage conditions. It also supports external batteries for extended filming and fast charging with an 80% charge in 23 minutes.

Comparison with Competitors

The Luna Pro competes with the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P, which is slightly cheaper in standard kit. While the Osmo Pocket offers more internal storage and higher frame rates for slow motion, the Luna Pro offers a built-in remote control screen, vertical 4K video, and a more convincing zoom. The Luna Ultra, priced higher, includes a telephoto lens, making it better for those needing reach but requiring a larger budget.
