Israel claimed it had destroyed underground infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah movement in southern Lebanon, an area that experienced strong explosions and ground shaking. The National News Agency of Lebanon confirmed that Israel conducted a demolition operation in the Ali al-Taher ridge, located in the Nabatiyé region. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on September 10 that the Israeli military had targeted what they described as a strategic terrorist infrastructure built over two decades with support from Iran. They stated that this operation "completes the establishment of a security zone in southern Lebanon." Images released by Defense Minister Katz showed a fireball rising into the sky following the attack. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a magnitude 4.1 earthquake in southern Lebanon, likely linked to the explosion. In Lebanon, the National News Agency reiterated that Israel had carried out the demolition in the Ali al-Taher ridge, which is located north of the Litani River, near the area Israel has occupied in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military had previously announced capturing this ridge a few days earlier. The explosion was strong enough to be felt by AFP journalists in the region, with the shock wave reaching the southern city of Sidon, approximately forty kilometers from Beirut. This development comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, a group backed by Iran, which has been involved in regional conflicts for years. The incident highlights the continued military activity in the area and the potential for further escalation.
