Founded in 2015 by Hugh Agnew and Richard Tinley, former executives of B&G, A+T Instruments has entered the high-end electronics market, particularly in competitive sailing. Based in Lymington, the British company employs around fifteen people and has become a reference in the superyacht market. During the last Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo, Leopard 3, the world champion in the Maxi 1 class, was equipped with A+T instruments, including processors, screens, and a wind vane. The same applied to the Gunboat 80 Highland Fling, winner in the multihull category. A+T also equips numerous Imoca yachts, such as Macif Santé Prévoyance, the winner of the last Vendée Globe, which had an A+T wind vane. The company's product range extends beyond wind vanes-anemometers, offering fully waterproof multifunction screens. Joe Lacey, responsible for new business development at A+T and a sailor who has raced in Mini 6.50 and Class40, noted that many professionals in offshore racing are only familiar with the wind vanes. He emphasized that the company's multifunction screens are a less-known aspect of their offerings. Based in Carnac, Lacey joined A+T last June to help the company accelerate its development in France. His missions include structuring partnerships in offshore racing and getting A+T included in the options lists of French series shipyards for high-end units. To achieve this, A+T has decided to strengthen its distribution network, historically concentrated in the south of France around the superyacht market, and has developed a marketing strategy with an ambition to reach 30% of the most premium segment of the global leisure electronics market. A+T products have built a reputation for reliability over ten years, due in part to strong design choices. On the wind vanes, all bearings are made of ceramic, reducing friction and stabilizing wind measurement more quickly. The same logic applies to the screens, whose housings are CNC machined rather than injection molded, and which all undergo a 24-hour immersion test before shipment. Lacey noted that many brands are satisfied with resistance to spray, without being truly waterproof in case of complete submersion. The company's attention to design is also reflected in the service provided to customers: A+T products are guaranteed for three years (wind vanes for two years) and are designed to be repaired rather than replaced, with many spare parts available. Technical support includes remote handling, with A+T processors and drivers connected to a web server, allowing the technical team to perform calibrations or resolve issues remotely. In the market for automatic pilots for offshore racing, A+T, which has developed its own pilots for leisure, has chosen cooperation over competition. The company provides screens and sensors compatible with the software of French specialists Pixel sur Mer and Madintec, even developing custom display pages to meet the specific needs of teams.
