Budget debate ends early

The budget debate in the National Assembly ended earlier than expected after the second part of the 2027 Social Security Financing Bill (PLFSS) was rejected by a large majority. The vote saw 115 members voting against the proposal and only one in favor.

Bill’s second part rejected

The rejected part of the bill dealt with revenue measures, including the elimination of a 1.12 billion euro contribution on health insurance supplements. This amendment had already caused controversy and weakened the government’s position.

Expenditure section not discussed

Because the second part of the bill was rejected, the National Assembly could not move on to the third part, which covers expenditures. This means key spending proposals for the coming year remain unreviewed.

Minister present during debate

Stéphanie Rist, the Minister of Health, was present during the debate on the 2027 PLFSS. Her presence highlighted the importance of the health-related provisions in the bill, though they were not discussed due to the early conclusion of the debate.
