A protest incident occurred in Paris on Thursday, October 8, when a police officer was recorded delivering a knee strike to the face of a young man at Place de la Bastille. The footage shows a group of protesters surrounded by law enforcement officers who were taking the individual in question into custody. The individual received a knee strike from a police officer belonging to an internal security company (CSI), specialized in maintaining order. He was then placed on the ground and handcuffed. An administrative investigation has been launched. The incident took place at the end of the demonstration, during the dispersal, when law enforcement was trying to push the protesters toward Boulevard Diderot so they would move toward Place de la Nation. Contacted by BFMTV, the police prefecture stated that "all afternoon, law enforcement was targeted by a minority of extremely violent individuals. Regarding this action, an administrative investigation will be conducted." The mobilization of high school students, who are demanding better learning conditions, was lower on Thursday compared to Tuesday, when demonstrations in France had gathered between 256,000 and 450,000 people. In total, 71,500 people demonstrated in France on Thursday, including 24,500 in Paris, during which 504 arrests were made and 48 police officers and gendarmes were injured, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
