Following their win of the Best Direction Award at Cannes, Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi have finally unveiled the official trailer for La Bola Negra. The film spans from Spain in 1932 to 2017, passing through the Spanish Civil War in 1937. This queer fresco weaves the destinies of three men linked by desire, secrets, and what is passed on to future generations. The story explores themes of love, identity, and legacy across several decades, offering a sweeping look at Spanish history through a personal lens. La Bola Negra is inspired by an unfinished project by the renowned Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, whose title gives the name to the feature film. Lorca, known for his contributions to Spanish literature and his tragic death during the Spanish Civil War, is remembered for his works that often explored themes of love, death, and social injustice. The film brings his vision to life through a modern cinematic lens. The cast includes the talented Guitarricadelafuente, a musician and guitarist making his film debut, along with Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Julio Torres, Penélope Cruz, and Glenn Close. The ensemble brings a mix of established and emerging talent to the film, enhancing its emotional depth and historical authenticity. Following its notable appearance at Cannes, La Bola Negra will represent Spain in the race for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. The film will have an exclusive two-month theatrical run before arriving on Netflix on December 2, giving audiences the chance to experience it on the big screen before its streaming debut.
